It’s with excitement that we introduce: The Kettle’s boiled series! My name is Blessing, and I am part of the Oarsome team. Once a month I’ll be sharing with you the conversations I have with an Oarsome team member, over a hot beverage.

We’re often very busy beavering away at work, and thought it was high time we introduced ourselves!

There was only one person we could begin with, and she’s the very reason why there’s an Oarsome family today. Founder and Managing Director of Oarsome Potential, first up is Emily Webb!

That was it; a school project. And now Oarsome grips are not only multi-award winning but are the market leaders in several industries!

Here’s what Emily had to say when I asked her a few questions:

1. The Kettle’s just boiled, what are you having?

Tea please, either black or with any non-dairy milk if you’ve got it

2. What’s the single best thing about your job?

Getting to meet and speak to so many fascinating people and feeling like I am fulfilling a purpose greater than myself.

3. Who has had the biggest impact on your career to date?

Kate, Jono, Mr Drummond, Anthony Hughes, my business mentor Chris and my mum who is also our co founder.

4. What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

I love collecting other people’s wisdom! For now, Gary, our accountant saying, “Being in business is a roller-coaster, buckle up!'

5. Who is your inspiration?

From a business perspective, my customers, past, present and future are my inspiration. From a personal perspective, I draw inspiration from people who have overcome significant challenges in business or life and are humble enough to share their honest stories.

6. If you had to give someone an award, who would you choose and what award would it be?

Natazia, she was the first customer I ever met in person, who I didn’t know personally (she bought the grips online). We shared a very special conversation, and since that moment I’ve felt sense of duty to make sure that as many people as possible hear about the grips and know where to get them. Natazia would get an award for being my beacon of motivation and hope.

7. What was the biggest challenge that you had to overcome?

Starting a business during a recession when I was a teenager!

8. What advice would you give to your younger-self?

Trust yourself, you’re smarter than you think.

9. What one thing would you like to be remembered for?

Helping others feel physically or mentally able to do or overcome something that felt challenging.

10. Our goal is making hands happy, so, what makes your hands happy?

Holding hands with someone I love.
